Side 2
-Mei-mei and I had seen a basket show at the Native American Museum in SF. She commented that the basket was a way to see cosmological space. I became interested in the basket in that light. Because the field is picked over the great baskets are highly priced and somewhat dead from being in collections. I was happy to find something so natural and true. Wonderfully lightweight
21N [upside down]
Side 1
basket Pima S. Arizona 1880s 224
-darkened fiber for rim/aesthetics
-not easy to find an affordable, good basket today
-it has a dark stain opposite from where the coils (grasses) end
from Tucson and south area
5 x 9 x 9″
Trading Post
$200±
bought in Española
Side 2
-very tight, wonderful to feel, though some wear and tear as if from native use
-bought after seeing basketry show in Santa Fe where Mm [Mei-mei] pointed out them as a cosmic expression in man
-everyday, common-looking, but everything perfect
-regularity and purpose
-I like the way it lifts its base off ground, like the way Mayan cylinder vases do, coiling like coiled pottery
-I like seeing it with stain/rim mark on opposite site
