Print on paper, endless copies, 9 × 44.9 × 32.9 in. (22.9 × 114.1 × 83.6 cm)
Museum of Modern Art, New York City, purchased in part with funds from Arthur Fleischer, Jr., and Linda Barth Goldstein, 103.1991, courtesy the Félix González-Torres Foundation

These sheets of paper bear the names and photographs of individuals killed by gun violence in the United States during one week in May 1989. Félix González-Torres appropriated images and text from Time magazine and deliberately presented them in an unadulterated fashion, inviting viewers to respond to an issue that remains pertinent today. González-Torres intended for this work to be reprinted, replaced, and distributed indefinitely—none of the sheets of paper are conserved in museum collections. Instead, the work is collected, stored, and preserved as a digital file, accompanied by a set of print-and-display specifications that enable its re-performance. Visitors are invited to take a sheet to read, keep, share, and display as they wish.
