Gary Beecham discusses sharing at Paul Stankard’s flameworking workshop. Oral history interview with Gary Beecham by Barb Elam, conducted via telephone, April 11, 2019, Bard Graduate Center. Clip length: 00:40.
Gary Beecham: This was a really important workshop cause it was the first time that a major name in lampworking was willing to show how he did his stuff. Before that, lampworking has traditionally been very secretive. I worked with a guy who was a lampworker when I worked up at Milropa Studios in [Queens] New York and he said that we never show anybody anything; we’re very secretive. We were running a production art glass shop, and the instruction was if anybody comes to the door, you shut the door. If anybody comes in the studio, you leave.
