Laura Donefer

American-Canadian artist Laura Donefer (1955– ) is known for her unique designs, such as the vibrant blown-glass pieces she calls “amulet baskets.” From 1972 to 1973, she studied sculpture at the National Art School of Cubanacan in Havana, Cuba. Donefer received a degree in Latin American studies from McGill University in Montreal in 1979. She later attended Sheridan College School of Craft and Design in Ontario, where she received a degree in glass and metal in 1985. She has taught at a number of institutions, including Pilchuck Glass School and the Penland School of Craft. She has also held workshops and given lectures worldwide, including in Japan, the United States, China, New Zealand, and Australia. Since 1989, she has organized glass fashion shows, which have grown into international, large-scale events. She maintains a studio in Harrowsmith, Ontario.
