Joe Upham

Brookline, Massachusetts–based glass artist Joe Upham first learned scientific glass at Lexington High School, near Boston. He also studied at the Massachusetts College of Art and Design and took courses at the Center for Advanced Visual Studies at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Upham is cofounder of New York Experimental Glass Workshop (later UrbanGlass), where he created the neon program in 1979. He works as a consultant for glass, neon, lighting, and software and has been designing a world-class glass facility in Jingdezhen, China since 2018.
